+ Senior Controller
Role Summary
The Senior Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial management and reporting, financial planning, corporate finance, legal, human resources, information technology planning and support, insurance and risk management and facility and building operations management. The Senior Controller works closely with the leadership to provide business and financial insights that help guide operational decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee all accounting operations, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Payroll, Tax, General Ledger, IT, Treasury Operations and Legal.
- Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting, including Profit & Loss (P&L), Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statements.
- Develop and enforce accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and internal controls.
- Lead financial audits and liaise with external auditors to ensure compliance.
- Ensure adherence to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and industry-specific financial regulations.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Implement financial policies to safeguard assets and mitigate risks.
- Ensure proper documentation for all financial transactions.
- Oversee tax filings, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
Planning, Budgeting & Cost Control
- Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual planning and budgeting, working with department heads to track revenue and expenses.
- Monitor actuals vs. budget and flag discrepancies.
- Analyze event and other revenues
- Analyze costs for event production, logistics, and vendor payments to improve margins.
Financial Systems & Process Improvement
- Analyze costs for event production, logistics, and vendor payments to improve margins.
- Optimize the company’s ERP/accounting software to improve financial efficiency.
- Streamline accounts payable/receivable processes to enhance cash flow.
- Improve financial reporting systems for better forecasting and decision-making.
- Ensure PEO interface for payroll is timely and accurate
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
- Monitor cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity for operations and growth.
- Optimize working capital by managing vendor payments, collections, and banking relationships.
- Oversee debt and credit management, ensuring financing structures align with business objectives.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies across financial processes.
Legal
- Work with outside counsel and CEO on contract management, compliance, and corporate legal matters.
- Experience with contracting in the events and experiential services industry, including vendor, venue, sponsorship, and client agreements
HR & Payroll Collaboration
- Ensure compliance with labor laws regarding payroll, taxes, and financial reporting.
- Assist in structuring financial aspects of employee benefits programs.
- Ensure timely payroll processing including sales commissions reporting
IT Management
- IT budgeting and environment 3-party support management, ensuring cost-effective technology solutions.
- IT environment management (hardware, software subscriptions (cloud) and other tools required to run the business
- Ensure data security protocols are in place from a financial risk perspective.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Develop and maintain business continuity and risk management policies to protect company personnel and assets.
- Manage corporate insurance policies, including general liability, errors and omissions, workers' compensation, directors' and officers' liability, event cancellation insurance and cybersecurity coverage.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with financial reporting, tax laws, and industry-specific requirements.
Facility & Vendor Financial Oversight
- Oversee lease agreements and facility-related financial decisions, including office space negotiations and property management relationships.
- Negotiate vendor contracts to ensure cost-effectiveness while maintaining service quality.
- Ensure compliance with lease obligations and property-related expenses.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred).
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in accounting, financial management, or controllership—ideally in a service-based or events-related industry—including minimum of 3–5 years in a controller capacity.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, tax regulations, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience in cash flow management, budgeting, and financial forecasting.
- Experience managing audits, internal controls, and process improvement.
- Proficiency in ERP/accounting software (QuickBooks) and financial modeling tools.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
- Risk management expertise, including insurance, compliance, and vendor oversight.
- Excellent leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to work across departments.
- Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and operate at both a strategic and tactical level.
- Proven ability to cultivate meaningful business relationships and represent the brand effectively through technical discussions, client communications, and industry-specific engagement.
- Must possess superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively engage a wide range of stakeholders, from staff to executive leadership and board members.
